“Our producers are relieved that the European Commission is taking decisive action to prevent further damage. They can now start recovering the injury caused by Chinese dumping and focus on strengthening their position in strategic markets with low carbon applications,” commented Gerd Götz, European Aluminium’s Director General.
Dumped imports have led to a decrease in production and a loss of market share for European producers across the entire value chain, which forced several companies to restructure or close plants with significant job losses as a result.
“We call on the Commission to work with its erparts in the US and Canada to address the root cause of China’s market-distortive behaviour: overcapacity. Anti-dumping duties offer protection against dumping in the short term but we need a structural and global solution to address subsidised Chinese overcapacity in the long term,” concluded Götz.
Certain aluminium flat rolled products originating in China are also subject to an EU anti-dumping investigation. Earlier this month, the EU announced its intention to impose provisional anti-dumping duties ranging 19,6 to 47,3%.
